Prompt: Where do you see yourself in ten years?

ten years from nowi will grow into my body

this sun-drenched skin will belong to me

even though i was told i don’t belong here

this phulkari will hang off my shoulder on stages

in galleriesin every space that welcomes me

without worry about the culture that cradles me

these hands will grasp my loved ones without

fear of being pulled away

because they didn’t seek safety the right way

this country will realize that colonization can’t

make it matter more than every indigenous

community that has held the earth

intimately and infinitely

this land will finally want my mother

this air will finally embrace my beloveds

and home will finally pronounce my name
